If you are a member of the National Trust then you can certainly get the most out of your membership whilst you are staying with us here at The 25 in Torquay.
There are eight major National Trust attractions within an hour’s drive of us so if you stay for a week that’s one a day, plus one on route too! There are smaller Trust owned properties, and more larger ones also within travelling distance and you’ll find a National Trust brochure in our reception listing over forty places to visit in Devon.
Here’s a brief description of each of our top eight recommendations and the distance in miles and minutes away from us, starting with the closest:
Compton Castle 12 mins 4 miles A proper medieval castle, with towers, high walls and portcullis.
Bradley 19 mins 7 miles An atmospheric medieval manor house, still a family home today.
Greenway 28 mins 7 miles Agatha Christie’s beloved holiday home, which can be reached by steam train or ferry. Car parking is limited and has to be pre-booked.
Coleton Fishacre 34 mins 10 miles A 1920s house with stunning gardens and walks down to the sea.
Castle Drogo 48 mins 34 miles The last castle to be built in England undergoing a monumental restoration project.
Killerton 50 mins 31 miles A Georgian house with beautiful garden set in a huge estate.
Knightshayes 59 mins 45 miles A Gothic style house created in Victorian times with richly decorated interiors.
Overbeck’s 60 mins 28 miles The subtropical garden home of an inventor on the cliffs above Salcombe.
So don't forget to bring your card with you!
If you're not a member, obviously you can still visit and enjoy all of the National Trust properties and just pay for entry at each one individually.
It may pay you to join the National Trust specially, with your holiday in Devon in mind to save yourselves money overall on the separate entry fees.
Please check the individual property details on the National Trust website for opening days and times. These can vary and not every property is open all year or even all of the week.
Whatever you choose to do to fill your time whilst staying in Devon, we are sure you'll have a great time. We look forward to seeing you soon!
